While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Some of the companions of the Prophet (п·є) came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them.

There is hadith in Bukhari which corroborates this notion. One of the leading schools believe it was revealed in Medina, however, this is generally less likely. It is regarded by most to be an early Meccan surah because its required reading in daily prayer. Surah Fatiha is called вЂњthe openingвЂќ for being the first Surah of the QurвЂ™an.
